Is it really worth buying the expensive nappies and nappy wipes, Huggies and such?
Are they really any better, or do the cheaper non-brands do the same job? If the non -brands are as good, can you reccomend a line or shop in the UK? Many thanks!

- I have tried every diaper and I prefer huggies gentle care or Pampers swaddlers. The cheap store brands to leak and are not as soft. As far as wipes I really love Target's sensitive brand, they are so soft and just as good as the name brand.
- Cheap brands work better in my opinion. I like the store brand and Luvs, I like Luvs wipes best too. Some store brand wipes are thin.
- Yes it is totally worth the extra money! The cheap no brand kind leak and cause rashes. I would spend the extra money for your baby. It's well worth it. :)
- Do you have Aldi in the UK? We have it here in Australia, and the Aldi nappies are just as good, if not better than huggies...and so much cheaper. Heaps of people use them. Wipes...i generally just use a cloth and water...cheap and much nicer on a babies bum. We also use cloth nappies part time (soon to be full time), and that's a great money saver too. Edit...and the aldi ones don't leave those horrible crystals that the huggies do.
- a lot of people ive spoken to say the cheaper brands are sometimes better, its only the name you are paying most for anyway. sainsburys and boots are the best non brands that i have heard about so they could be worth a try. also even basic nappy wipes from pound shops do the trick. i will personally use huggies from birth just to avoid any allergies, then when they are a bit older just use the cheaper sort. each baby is different so get a few of each and just test them out.
- yes it is worth the extra money...i have tried store brand diapers and wipes and they just dont measure up to name brands
- I've always bought Pampers diapers so can't comment on the cheaper diapers (I'm not willing to take the risk of cheaper diapers as the consequences could be disastrous! LOL!). But I have bought cheaper wipes and will never do that again! They are thin and dry so had to use 2x as many for each diaper change, which in the end probably cost me more $ than if I stuck with the Pampers wipes!
- The more expensive diapers do work better, but what you could do is buy a pack of cheap diapers for the day time where you change your baby more often and just buy a pack of expensive ones for the night(thats when the expensive ones work best) If you do it that way then the expensive ones will last a lot longer and you'll only go through the cheap ones fast. As far as wipes goes. The cheap kind is fine. they're only wipes and they all get the job done.
- I don't know about cheap vs. expensive, but I HIGHLY recommend Nature Babycare nappies, wipes and bags - they're all 100% biodegradable, which means you're helping out the environment while still using disposables (hooray, no washing re-usables!). They're no more expensive than Huggies/Pampers, and my son has NEVER had nappy rash in his 7 and a half months cos they're also chlorine free, etc!
- I never had any luck with disposables at all. They leak, they stink and they cause rash. It was a constant battle with diaper rash. We use cotton diapers and I'll never go back. I think disposables are really gross now! If you haven't checked out cloth diapers lately, they've changed a lot since we wore them. No pins or plastic pants--now you can get velcro nappies that are shaped like a disposable! I make some of mine, and the scraps make great wipes.
- I always paid more for the name brand diapers, they just stopped leaks better and were nice to my babies bottoms! But, I have always made my own wipes! It is so easy! Here in the US I use Scott's paper towels, they are a thick better quality towel with ridges. You cut the roll in half so you have 2 shorter rolls. You need a plastic container the roll will fit into with a lid. Then you mix 2 cups of boiling water, 2 tablespoons of any baby soap, and 2 tablespoons of any baby oil. I used the cheapest stuff. You poor that over the top and wait about 5 minutes, and then you can pull the cardboard roll out of the center. I found these were better for baby, and not only were great for bottoms, but you can wash hands and faces when you are out on the go!!
- I'm a cloth diaper mom, three times over. Used disposables (store brand) only at night and for certain errands & trips. 1. 4 dozen cloth birdseye pre-folded extra thick diapers: $50 2. 16 diaper clips (safer than pins) purchased online: $8 3. plastic pants to cover diapers (some purchased at thrift shops, some new, 3-6 pairs of each size) total overall: $20 4. 20 Mule team Borax, $5 a box, and used 4 boxes in 2 years (for soaking diapers in diaper pail before washing) 5. 1 pair of extra long tongs for holding poopy diaper to rinse in toilet: $2 6. Disposable diapers purchased every 2-3 months for night time, etc.: $20 7. Other items: small plastic container to set poopy diaper in until it's rinsed after changing baby, industrial sized bucket with snap-on lid filled with soaking water for diapers until washing day: both free. I'm a huge fan of cloth diapering and in this time of environmental awareness and financial problems for alot of people, it's going to make a come-back! And I noticed no big difference in store brand versus name brand. I did not like Huggies; they leaked more than the cloth diapers did. Pampers were good. Some store brands were better than others.
- I always tried the more expensive ones and I always came back to LUVS. They are not too expensive and they work great. Walmart used to carry a brand called White Cloud that I liked too. As for wipes, I always used to buy the case from BJs or COSTCO. They worked good too. of course my "baby" is now 8! LOL so things might have changed
- The main problem I have with offbrand is that they aren't as soft. I had a problem with White Cloud diapers and poopie leakage, but other than that they actually work okay. I just wasn't as impressed because of the softness. I would rather spend a couple of more dollars and get my baby something soft.
- I prefer Pampers. I tried every brand I could find, and they would all leak. Pampers never leaked :)
- I have tried every brand out there and I use pampers for diapers and pampers sensitive for wipes (one's with perfume can cause diaper rash). Other diapers just don't have the same shape and don't work as well. Huggies are alright but I find them 3 times thicker than Pampers.
- Here in the US, I have tried ever brand of diapers out there, and I am very impressed with the publix brand diapers (not the premium). They work as well if not slightly better than brand names, and they are soft soft soft. And I normally buy sam's club wipes, but Im going to try making own!
- hi there i agree with wiXet if you have an aldi over there then try the mamia brand i have a 5 month old who has been using them since 2months old as i was buying the huggies then afew friends of mine told me to try them and they do the job but babies are different .they are also cheap we get a pack of 56 nappies for a 4-9kg for $15.99 and they last her through the night also give them a try
