Premium Nappies

How do I pre-treat real nappies before washing?

Hi I've been using cotton nappies as much as possible instead of disposables but wondered if anyone can advise me on the best way to treat the nappies before washing. It takes me about 4/5 days before I have enough to wash - should I have them in soak in a bucket the whole time beforehand or should I just put them in the wash with some napisan. Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks.

  1. Waste Aware Scotland have produced a guide to using real nappies: http://www.wasteawarescotland.org.uk/html/realNappyRes.asp Home washing: Please follow the manufacturer's advice on storing and washing nappies. Pre-soaking is not required with modern real nappies, although you may wish to soak them if they are heavily soiled. There is no need to boil wash real nappies; they can be washed easily at home in a 60°C washing machine cycle along with washable liners. Brand new nappies should be washed a couple of times before use, as this will increase their absorbency. Covers should be washed at 40°C where possible to protect their waterproof fabrics. If inserts are used, these should be removed from the nappy before washing both parts. Choose from the quicker drying fabrics if you have concerns about drying time.
