What is the best way to get rid of a 17 month olds diaper rash?
he has the diaper rash like on his inner thigh where the diaper rubs on it. And i know for a FACT that hanging out in the tub is a bad idea it does'nt let it dry out any and causes the wounds to open further.

- Well use a warm flannel instead of baby wipes as the baby wipes will hurt your young ones bottom, but also i think you should take them to the doctor as it might be dermatitis and will need a cream to make it go away
- my favorite diaper cream is johnsons and johnsons diaper rash cream. It doesn't smell like Desitin. Put a thick layer on it and then follow with petroleum jelly. Repeat after every diaper change. If it doesn't go away, follow up with pediatrician.
- Zinc Oxide Cream - the brand name stuff is the same only higher priced. Get it at the drugstore.
- a+b cream
- i had to take my daughter to the ER for a diaper rash, they told me to soak the area in her tub with mineral oil in it, it worked, her rash went away like in 2 or 3 days
- Try leaving without a nappy/ diaper as often as possible.Put him on some loose fitting underwear to give time for the skin to recover. Of course he'll have to be in a room with washable flooring or maybe in the garden. As soon as he wets himself change his underwear. It allways worked with my children.
- cornstarch! it really really really does work. my sister uses it on my niece (she's 13months) plus i use is when i get chapped thighs in the winter. and my dad has used it for years cuz he is a farmer and gets really raw thighs due to sweating in heavy jeans and having it rub against his thighs. trust me this works like a charm and your baby's diaper rash will be gone with in a day or two.
- Let him go commando for as long as possible. The air helps it dry and heal quicker. My daughter had a bad case of it and the pediatrician suggested we get one of those large baby gates (I'm think it was called a super-yard) and pad it with towels in case of any accidents. She cleared up after a few sessions of it.
- Seriously, try the Aveeno diaper rash cream. I was shocked that it starts healing the rash, and you'll see a huge difference even by the next diaper change. I think it says that on the back too, but I didn't believe it when I read it-- but I do now! It also wipes off easily, which is good because you don't want to be scrubbing it off a raw little bottom. If that doesn't work, at our house we alternate between Aveeno, and Butt Paste (Walmart) and that clears it up.
- We use Butt Paste after almost every diaper change. My daughter is 9 months old and has NEVER had diaper rash. So, I'd say the stuff works pretty good!
- Cloth diapers- we started using them when my oldest kept getting rashes. 2 days in cloth diapers, and he was totally clear.
