How long does it take for diaper rash to go away? or ways to make it go away quickly?
My little baby has two red patch each side of the rectum. It's diaper rash, not yeast. We apply Destinin cream on her but inevitably she cries alot of the time. Does anyone know how long it will take for the rash to go away? Does anyone know if there's any other way to make it go away quicker?

- Try putting a tablespoon or so of Baking Soda in her bathwater. That can help them heal faster. Frequent diaper changes and a little bit of diaper-free time every day can help, too. Hope she feels better!
- I would keep trying the Desitin, and if doesn't go away in a few days call the doctor. It may be something else, and infection? What type of diapers are you using? I know alot of diapers now are designed so the baby's skin doesn't stay went, if the diaper wasn't bulky you wouldn't of know they peed. Change her more often to keep it dry?
- Yes. Let the her go without a diaper for at least 10 minutes. Put her someplace she can't make a mess. (changing table or even a mat) The rash needs to air out. Hold hre little legs open so it is exposed to the air. Mix mylanta with desitin this will take the acid out of her feces.
- Corn starch helps alot. It also helps it feel better to maybe. It takes the heat out of the rash especially if you keep it in the freezer. Air is the best thing to prevent and cure diaper rash. My little girl had it really bad there for awhile so I would put Desitin on constantly, but it didn't always help,. Now that the rash is gone to prevent it when I change her after I wipe her I just let her air out a little until her skin is dry and then I put the Desitin on. I hope this helps! :)
- its usually better by a few hours..depending how bad it is.. IF its just a little red then i'd say it'd be gone by the next day as long as you put the cream on at every diaper change
- Air the child out. As often and for as long as possible. If you have some cloth diapers in the house, or even just a towel, lay her out on it without a diaper and just let the air get to it. I do this everyday and my son has never had even a hint of a diaper rash. If you don't have time to air out for a long time, use a receiving blanket to pat dry her little bottom. Take a few minutes to do this, pat dry and "fan" dry the whole area, and then use a high in zinc cream all over. The zinc will help, but airing out is the most important thing.
- clotrimazole 1% is an antifungal cream recommended by my dr and its works wonders! In a day my daughter's red rash wil be gone. Also daily use of athlete's foot powder keeps it away too.
- baking soda in the bathtub to soothe and heal faster and bag balm on the tushy when she gets changed. Bag balm i know is made for cows teats BUT it works great for diaper rash (and yeast if it occurs as well)
- Cortaid is what the doc told my sis to use. It is a steroid cream over the counter. You can buy it a walmart.
- i was told that my daughter didn't have yeast either and inevitably it was after seeing 4 different drs. the yeast was on her bottom so long that she had a yeast and a bacterial infection. when ever your child has a diaper rash you always want to expose them to as much air and indirect sunlight as possible. that is great for all diaper rashes and yeast. for diaper rashes you should use desitin because it has the most zinc oxide, dont get the creamy because the creamy doesnt have as much zinc oxide in it as regular desitn and it does not create as good a barrier as regular desitin. if it does not clear in a day see a dr asap. if you have to find a different dr.
- this is going to sound terrible...but it worked really well and really fast. After every bath time get the blow drier put it on the lowest heat possible and the lowest blow setting. Air your baby out after the bath and put the blow drier a decent distance from her bottom but enough for air to hit it. Then move it around so air is not hitting one spot of her butt for a period of time. Do this for abou 30 seconds or so or until the bottom is nice and dry. My mom did that for my sister and her diaper rash went away quickly. I did that for my son (still doing it) and his diaper rash went from really bad to now hardly there (thats why im still doing it) in a couple days. Destinin never worked for my son, in fact it made the rash worse because it was so hard to take off when wiping his butt after changing his diaper and just made it worse. Also when wiping his butt i used warm wash cloths instead of baby wipes because the stuff in the wipes irritate babies skin. Now that his rash is almost gone im back to using the wipes. Also when wiping him pat him dont wipe, that makes it worse as well. Good luck!
