What size baby diapers should I use for a teacup Yorkie puppy?

Preemie or newborn? And should I use Huggies, Pampers, or some other brand? Which works the best? I'm just wondering. I don't even have a dog yet. (And I haven't found one, either) Elena (and everyone else): This was purely a speculation question. I do not have a dog and will not be getting one soon. I was merely wondering, as I've heard of people doing this before. And also, I KNOW there's no such thing as a "teacup". I KNOW that they are just dwarf dogs. I just feel that that's a perfect description of the size dog I like (about 2-3 lbs., which, YES, I KNOW, is UNDER the breed standard for Yorkies). Please stop stating the obvious. I don't need anyone else ruining my day. Why is everyone the same? I haven't met ANYONE who was decent in the past 2 years... don't add yourself to my list. To u_won't_stop_me: STOP BEING A JERK! Or stop answering people's questions (mine, at least) until YOU get a brain. P.S. If you had a brain, you'd know how to spell, and you would've never submitted such an idiotic response in the first place. Cricketnutoz: I posted it because I was bored. And (not talking about you in this) I didn't expect to have people jumping down my throat (so to speak) over such a silly thing. Why would THEY care if I put a diaper on my dog if I had one? It's not like it's cruel. It doesn't hurt the animal, and they don't care if they're wearing it.

  1. I think all baby diapers would be too big for a pup that small. It's much easier to just confine the pup when you can't keep 100% watch on it and take it out to potty every hour or so at first until you get it on a schedule. I always just used the puppy pee pads in the puppy area with my pups.
  2. Why would you need nappies for a puppy? I've had dogs and I've never needed them. I think Americans go a big mad with animals though and keep them more like humans they we do. Is it because you want a girl dog who will go in season?
  3. You should not use nappies on a dog...what are you thinking ? if you are getting a puppy take the time to house train it. its not cute to see a pppy with a nappy on and you will only make a big mess in its fur and prolong the house training and make things harder for your self. xXx
  4. I'm not sure in which sense you wanted to use them. Is it for the dog's estrus cycle or just plain training? In any case I don't think any of the human brands would work too well, simply because the fit is tailored to a newborn humans body. They do however make doggie diapers and pads (I included a link below) that you can purchase at your local pet store. Hope this helps!
  5. Animals are not humans, it's not natural for them to wear nappies, I mean, if you had a kid would you take it for a walk on a leash and teach him/her to urinate on lamp posts? I don't think so. If you did put a puppy in nappies, how would it become toilet trained....? Animals need to learn from as young as possible...otherwise as they get older it will be harder for them. And i'm sure you don't want animal excressions inside of you're house.
  6. Your dog is going to get urinary tract infection. Throw the diapers away.
  7. You can't be serious! I hope you NEVER get a dog if you plan to make him wear baby nappies! Dogs are NOT babies or children - they do NOT use human diapers. Please do not embarrass and humiliate your dog. Go to your local vet and BUY some PROPER DOG DIAPERS. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A "TEACUP" ANYTHING! Remember that. No matter what "breeders" say. All "TEACUP" dogs are UN-HEALTHY RUNTS being sold for hundreds more than what they're worth.
  8. Premie is the smallest sized diapers, but they were even too big for my son who weighed 5lbs 11oz at birth, if you're going to do a diaper for a small dog (which would be messy in my opinion) you might want to use cloth diapers.
  9. Dogs don't wear diapers. If you do get a Yorkie don't go the pee pad route. Get a crate and housebreak them properly. Yorkie girls are easier than boys to housebreak. Even though they're tiny dogs, they have some very expensive problems.
  10. This has to be a sick joke. For a start there is no such thing as a teacup Yorkie - if anyone sells you one, it is in all probability a diseased runt and will cost you a fortune in vet's fees, if it even survives. And why on God's earth would you want to put nappies on a dog? Please, before you take this huge step, do some research on (1) acquiring a healthy puppy, either from a reputable breeder or preferably from a rescue centre; (2) how to actually look after a dog, which does not include dressing it up like a baby. Edit: Kat, I think you are right - the more I read these sites the more I am convinced Americans think they are treating their animals better than they treat their children (whereas in fact they are ruining the animals and storing up huge problems for themselves). The latest in America is: dogs on antidepressants!!!!!!! Should be illegal.
  11. Honey, if you don't even have a dog yet, why post such a weird question? You must surely have known you'd get shot down in flames. And you seem truly upset about it - why put yourself through so much stress? It's only Yahoo Answers, it's not real life. If and when you get your dog, ask the person you buy it from (I would hope it will be the shelter, where they have expert veterinary nurses) how to take care of it and they will give you all the instructions you need. Until then, take care and stop stressing!
