how do you tell the difference between a diaper rash and yeast infection on babies?
The red bumps are above his penis and I have been putting diaper rash cream on it for over a week!!!

- Have you tried letting your son go without his diaper for about 15-20 minutes. Diaper rashes go away when you air them out. Try this for a day or two and if it still doesn't go away then take the baby to the doctor for a prescription.
- My son gets flat pink spots around the border of the rash when it is yeast. Just try treating it, buy yeast infection cream or jock itch cream and apply a very small amount twice a day. That is what the pharmacist told me to do. If it isn't clearing up in 48 hours go to the doctor.
- The yeast infection wont go away when treating it with regular diaper rash cream. My son had that and I tried and tried to get it to go away with the cream and letting him go without a diaper and air out, etc....I took him to the dr and they told me it was a yeast infection and gave me a cream and it went away after 2 days. Just take him to the dr.
- Yeah, generally if a diaper rash is being treated and is still going strong it is probably yeast. There is a powder called Zeasorb which works great on this...it's available at most larger pharmacies or 'surgical supply' stores.
- Get some monistat just to try. Or some Lamisil My lil girl is bad about wiping and I use these.
- If you let the your little guys bottom air out every time you change him... and are treating with Balmex or the like.... and it still isn't going away... try Monistat or Lamisil..... the doctor proscribes Oxistat which has no generic and runs about $56.
- Look inside his mouth on his cheek, are there white bumps? a yeast infection rash is supposed to by symmetrical red spots. I would talk to your doctor.
- If regular diaper rash cream with 40% zinc oxide, like desitin, isn't helping (you should notice a big difference in just 2 days) it's mostly yeast. Make a doctor appointment for your little one to get some Nystatin ointment. If you have to wait a while for the appointment some monostat cream will help some.
