How can I treat really stubborn diaper rash?

My 7 month old has a horrible diaper rash. The doc had us try lotrimin and cortizone. We also tried different diaper rash ointments and switched from Pampers to Huggies. Nothing is working. It's bright red and itches her. Any suggestions?

  1. I have three kids and I used Quinsana Foot powder on my kids diaper rash. It's wonderful and clears it up very fast. It works grate on heat rash also. My mother in law used it on her kids as well.
  2. The best thing to use is pure zinc oxcide, it's the main ingredient in diaper rash cream but just buying it all by itself is sooo much better. You can get it al Walgreens (Target doesn't have it) , and it's gentle on your baby's skin. It has cured all of my friend's babies diaper rashes when nothing else works. It's better than Buttpaste and any other diaper rash cream. It worsk really fast too. You'll notice a big difference by the next morning.

  4. I have found that when all else fails a few times outside in the nude helps. not in direct sunlight and the weather has to be nice but it has never failed me before!

  6. I'm not sure if you've tried this yet, but I'll say it just in case... When you change her, wash her off with water, instead of wipes from a box. Also, let her air dry for at least 10 minute, maybe more. THEN you put the anti-itch cream, rubbing it in as well as possible and air drying again for 1 or 2 minutes. On top of that, put petroleum jelly (it will not allow moisture in). Don't let a wet diaper sit on her for ANY amount of time. It's time consuming and more expensive to change diapers so often, but it works and it's what we gotta do to help our babies. Mine has sensitive skin and we have to do this from time to time.   7. Keeping her butt clean and dry is the first thing to do. When you change her clean her good and use a soft towel to dry her before diapering her. There is a product called Butt Butter hard to find. Ask the pharmacy. Sure hope she gets better, nothing sadder than a poor little baby with a sore butt. good luck, Will
  8. Poor thing...Dr. Smith's Diaper OIntment. Worked for all my kids! There is even some advise on it for future outbreaks.
  9. Corn starch is what we always used. It keeps the area dry and relieves the itching and stinging almost immediately! Best luck to you and the little one! I hope this helped.
  10. Are you sure it IS diaper rash and not an allergic reaction? If it itches that tends to make me think it is an allergic reaction.
  11. From an experienced nurse --- LEAVE IT OPEN TO THE AIR without anything on it for awhile. Also, diapers need changed as soon as they are wet/soiled. STOP using baby wipes and just use wet paper towels. Once it is cleared up, use vaseline to protect the bottom, but really diapers need changed sooner! P.S. DO NOT USE POWDERS. They get into babys lungs.

  13. Could it have turned into a yeast infection? It it has then you need a script for nystatin or something like that. Is it starting to bleed a little? My kids had this problem now and again. Ask the Dr about it also we use Boudreaux's butt paste it works miracles if you can find it where you live
  14. i have always used resenall.. cant spell it but it works great and will not burn when applied. you may have to switch to a different brand of diapers. please try the resenall is works wonders. it says it is for burns but it works great on diaper rashes.
  15. I'm a nurse and you NEVER put powder on a diaper rash. It causes yeast. Air is the best thing for diaper rash, but from what you are describing, she may have a yeast infection.( It's different than a vaginal yeast infection.) We all have yeast on our skin, just sometimes there is an overgrowth, especially in babies because the diaper area is warm and moist and acidic.Perfect breeding ground for yeast buds to grow.The creams you use for diaper rash just feed it and make it worse.Yeast on babies is red and itchy and even moist looking in some places. My son got a terrible one when he was about 10 mos. Air dried it out and I used genetian violet and monistat. Take her to her pediatrician if the zinc oxide doesn't help because it may be more than diaper rash, but please, never use powder on your baby.
  16. Have you tried using Vaseline, I have to use that on my daughter cause everything else burns her, and on my other little girl when she was a baby I used cornstarch, that took it away right away. I hope this helps.
  17. No! No! No! Powders, creams, paste, or corn starch. my daughter has a bad rash right now from the nursery using corn starch. Use vaseline or my most favorite thing that works A & D Ointment from Walmart or Target.

My 2yr old had a really bad diaper rash from a milk allergy(when she was about 6mths)..... blisters and redd... it was horrible..... she slept at night with her diaper off to let ar get to it... But I found this diaper rash cream that is mixed at one of our local pharmacies.... got some and her rash cleared up completly in about 4 days.. It is called Baby Bottom Butter... It is only sold at this pharmacy.... I do not know where you live but maybe you could call and have some shipped to you if you do not find anything to work close to you .....
