Can you use diaper rash ointment before the rash appears?

I want to make sure that i'm proactive with my daughter's diaper changes. Does anyone else use diaper rash cream before the rash appears?

  1. Sure you can use it to prevent diaper rashes.
  2. No I dont. I dont think you should
  3. Yes. My daughter has extremely sensitive skin so I used diaper cream after every bowel movement. I also made sure to change her frequently so she rarely had a wet diaper.
  4. If you change her diaper frequently, you can avoid a diaper rash in its entirety. But yes you can also use that, and baby powder. Does her mom know this??
  5. Every time. Helps to provide a barrier between soilings and her bottom.
  6. yes but you want to make sure it's for sensitive skin. a very gentle type since your baby doesn't have a diaper rash. a better idea might be to use baby powder to help keep your baby comfortable after diaper changes. it can be used at any time before after or durring a diaper rash. just make sure you completely wipe it off and re apply after every change. other wise it can cake onto her skin and will hurt when wiped off if it's been on for too long.
  7. they don't recomend it... as a thing to do at EVERY diaper change, since the skin may get used to this,a nd the first time you don't have it, WHAM she gets an AWFUL diaper rash that is not easily treated... but, if she is sleeping through the night... it may be a good idea to put a thin layer on her, since it sort of seals moisture AWAY from the skin. Good For you for wanting to make sure she doesn't get a rash... Keep her dry and don't use perfumed wipes or soaps and you should have a fairly easy time of it... watch out when you add juices to her drinking regiment. Since the scid itself can casue a rash. Good Luck!
  8. I wouldn't put anything on her bottom unless you have to. Sometimes those creams or ointments don't act as a barrier and encourage more rash to appear. Maybe for the nighttime put on a little cream or powder to stop wee sitting on the skin, but if you are changing her regularly and using a quality nappy then you shouldn't have a problem.
  9. Yes, I also like to take some neosporin on my son's "hole" sorry, but sometimes with his pooping it gets red, LOL. But it works so well.
  10. Use it every time to avoid it in the first place (not too much though)
  11. Some people use it at every diaper change to prevent rashes. The only problem with this is that the skin doesn't get exposed to normal diaper content and relies on the cream to protect it rather than build up its own defences. It also doesn't get to breathe. Not all babies get diaper rash. The best way to prevent it is to change them frequently and allow some diaper-free time each day. I would lie my daughter on a couple towels on the floor and let her play without her diaper on for a while. She only ever had a couple nappy rashes as a baby, and they were related to food intolerances. Good luck!
  12. Yes.. I do when he starts to look a little red, just in case. He hasn't had one so far.
  13. All parents do things a bit differnt. Here is what I do I don't use the cream if we are going to be around home most of the day/all day and diaper chances will be around normal times. If we are going away and it will be a bit tougher to change diaper then I put the cream on and also at nite time since baby goes a lot longer w/o being changed. I have never used baby powder. Also balmex cream. If you are concnered about diaper rash you could bring it up at the next ped. appt.
  14. Bag Balm is awesome. I used it every time there was the slightest hue of pink. My babies never had diaper rash.
  15. I used it even when my daughter did not have a rash. Just a thin layer though. It is used for prevention, and relief of diaper rashes.
  16. Yeppers! An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
  17. Some oinments are also used to prevent diaper rashes(especially if your baby sleeps throught the night). Also:do not use baby powder.
