Premium Nappies

My little sister has to wear nappies, what can my family do?

My little sister is 10 years old and still has to wear nappies at night. This makes her feel to embaressed to go to sleepovers, school trips ect. She goes to bed a 8.00pm but doesn't have a drink after 7.00pm. She uses the bathroom before she goes to bed and we don't think there is anything medically wrong with her. What do you suggest my family does?

  1. stop telling her it's alright. tell her she must clean up herself. something to shock her into stopping.
  2. Some kids just need more time to outgrow it... just be patient - her bladder will probably catch up with her body.
  3. It depends on what your family doctor says/does about it.
  4. Did your parents try taking her to the Dr to rule out medical problems? He may be able to offer more advice. Perhaps also she should try setting an alarm to wake herself up during the nite for a bathroom trip.
  5. You mean, like, Pullups? Try those new Pullups that fit more like underwear. And when she throws them away, tell her to put them deep in the trash, underneath other things.
  6. Take her to the doctor
  7. pls dont disepline her for this i think its awful when a parent diseplines thir child for wetting themselves.....go to ur docter my friends son is 11 an he still wets the bed he has to wear a pair of pants then a sensory which senses the slight bit of wet an sounds an alarm to wake him up to go to the toilet then another pair of pants to hold the sensor on him go to the doctors ...pls dont punish her tho good luck
  8. Get her checked out with a doctor and search for some "nappies" that are more discreet in the way they look as to avoid embarrassment.
  9. You could wear undies over the nappies. or try a pad, i know, it probably would be uncomfortable for her, but it's just a suggestion. Also, try the new pullups.
  10. You should take her to the doctor, Their are specal devices that attacth to her pjs and sound an alarm to wake her up when she goes. Only a doctor can get this for her though.
  11. My sister had that problem until she was eleven. She ended up going on medication, which helped, but she had to stop drinking after dinnertime, and trying to use the washroom before bed. You should talk to her doctor. Even if it's not medical, they can help.
  12. You might want to reconsider the medical issue. Some children sleep extra sound at night, and are hard to wake up, because they have "reactive hypoglycemia". They may seem perfectly normal during the daytime, while they are eating, but at night when they stop eating, their blood sugar levels drop so low that they have difficulty waking up on their own. Diabetics are people with high blood sugar. It is easy to find out if someone has high blood sugar. Doctors always check for things like that. People who have low blood sugar though, almost never get noticed, because they seem normal when they are awake and eating. They almost never look like anything is wrong, as long as they eat or drink something every three to four hours, which they do when they are awake. The problem with the low blood sugar usually only happens at night when they are sleeping, because they go too long without eating, and they sleep too deeply. Best way to fix the problem, would be to get her one of those stop watches that they sell in the Wal-Mart sports section. If she goes to bed at 8:00, then you set the alarm so that it will go off at 11:30PM, and again at 3:00AM. If she gets up and goes to the bathroom at those hours, she shouldn't have accidents anymore, as long as she eats a quick snack before she goes back to bed. My son had the same bed-wetting problem, and we fixed it by having him eat one slice of cheese, one graham cracker, and half-cup serving of unsweetened apple sauce when the alarm woke him up to go to the bathroom. It's also a good bedtime snack before she goes to bed too. It should only take her 5 minutes to eat these, and then she can go back to bed, without her sugar dropping too low. These things will keep her from falling so deeply asleep that she has accidents. Her bladder will adjust to the schedule too. It worked real well for my son. He never had accidents anymore, once we started waking him twice, and giving him the 5 minute snack. When he went to stay all night at a friends house, we didn't have to tell anyone that he had a bed wetting problem. We just said that his blood sugar dropped too low at night if he didn't have a snack, so his friends always woke him up when the stop watch went off, and told him to get up and go eat his snack. He went to the bathroom at the same time, and the problem was solved without any embarrassment. Tell your parents that they can contact me if they have any questions. My son was 10 years old before we figured out what was wrong. My e-mail is: ramseycat@att.net
  13. I would go to your family doctor. She could have something medically wrong with her. A friend of mine did it until he was 13. His doctor gave him all sorts of advice to make it stop. Good luck.
  14. worst thing u can do is make her feel embarrassed about it, everyone is different. take her to the doc so they can check theres nothing physical, sometimes they can prescribe medication to help, just reassure her as if she is worried it could make her worse.
  15. You don't "think" there is anything wrong with her? Don't you KNOW? A doctor should be all over this, it shouldn't be something that your family is guessing about.
  16. She'll grow out of it. If she stops wearing nappies then in her subconscious her brain will tell her to stop, because it doesn't like being wet. If she goes to bed later that should help too because it will give her more time to go for another pee. It's really not good to go to bed early.
  17. Make sure that there is nothing stressing her out at her school, if so you need to sort it out, as she had a fall that fight have affected her bladder? Ask her teacher if she is having friendship issues or behind on the work? Try to make sure she is relaxed. Maybe you should not let her have a drink past 6.oopm. Good Luck xx
  18. take her to the doctor so you can be sure there is nothing medically wrong with her
