16 month old has bad diaper rash best remedies?
My baby just got a diaper rash. She had lose bm and as a result now has an incredible diaper rash. I have tried desitin and balmex, and it is really red and irritated. She cries whenever she has a wet diaper. Anyone know any home remedies that will work fast, before it develops into a infection?

- Try A&D ointment. When you change your daughter, let her air out a bit, then put the ointment on. It always worked for my son.
- Brown some flour!!!.. It DOES work!!!... Put it on her bottom like you would with baby powder.....my daughter had a really bad rash at 3 months...the doctor prescribed her 2 good creams that werent working.. my mom told me to brown some flour and it worked!.....but, put the balmex or desitin on her also with the flour to help it stick....I used A&D ointment.
- My son hada really sore cracked bum that within a couple diapers started to bleed even and nothing OTC seemed to be working I tried al the zinc products out there. My MIL came over with some browned flour and in a mater of 2 days his bum was completly healed. It never stung him when I put it on and he gladly let me put it on him where the other creams stung or burned I think because he would scream and clamp his legs together. It also draws away the moisture to promote healing. Put flour in a thin layer on a baking sheet and bake at 400 until it is golden or lightly brown then use it as you would baby powder. also try adn let her go without her diaper for a little while so that air can get on her. It will make he feel relieved and it will dry up and heal the rash
- Try Putting a bit of Baking soda in the bottom of tub. Let her sit in it for a while. Then allow her to air out on a disposable changing pad. Or if she has regular potty times let her just run around on uncarpeted flooring for awhile. My daughter had the same issue at 2 months and it was horrible. It cleared up as soon as the loose stools stopped. Until then it was a fighting battle. If the rash is bright red and starts to peel around the edges and progressivly gets worse you may want to take her to the doctor for Diaper Dermatitis. They will prescribe Nystatin for it. My co, Prescribed Nystatin plus cortizone and that stuff works wonders!!! She never got a rash from not being changed as I change her often and stick with the same brand of diapers. BUT loose stools will do it everytime.Sometimes its not the actual loose stoll itself but what is in the stool. She had a spot in her mouth. It was a very small Thrush. She swallowed it through her saliva and out her bottom it came. Causing the diaper dermatitis. Check for any fever, Other things going on. If everything seems o.k. Keep using the creams, and Let it run its course. The baking soda will soothe it.
- Cornstarch.....Wash area well when changing so it does not get irratated more. Do not cake the starch just a light layer it will dry the area out and then it can start to heal.... good luck...no creams they just prevent rashes but once she has one they just hold the heat into the sore making it no better.
- Oddly enough, I always had several different brands of ointment on hand, because it seemed that sometimes one brand that had worked the time before wouldn't do the trick, but a different brand that might not have done anything before worked wonders. I usually used A&D (not the white creamy kind with the blue writing on the label, but the yellowish, clearish colored kind with the yellow/brown writing on the label) That brand consistenly worked very well for my son, however like I said, there were times that the A&D didn't work at all and another brand worked wonders. I only had luck with Desitin once, but also found that Bordeaux's Butt Paste worked great (Wal-Mart carries it) It's the messiest of all the brands very thick and not as easy to apply but it worked for some of his most stubborn diaper rashes. Another time, what I thought was just a bad diaper rash where NOTHING was doing the trick ended up being some form of yeast and I had to get a prescription cream from the pediatrician that cleared it up in about a day. I also used vaseline once with a lot of baby powder and that also worked. Basically, each time my son got a diaper rash I had to try different brands until I found one that worked, and then the next time, it was usually a different brand that worked, so I always kept at least 2-3 brands on hand but usually more.
- I would take her in to make sure it is not a yeast infection. Our baby just had one. It was her first diaper rash ever and she is now 15 months old. After you rule that out it may be easier to treat. Our baby is cutting molars and I think that is how it got started. Good luck!
- live culture yogurt! its natural and it really works!
- Seriously, the best thing for really red diaper rash is clotrimazole cream!!!
- I wouldn't use Desitin, the pediatrician told me that Balmex is better because there is one ingredient used in Desitin that isn't used in Balmex, and it makes the rash sting. I've definitely had fewer tears using Balmex. (Notice I said fewer, not none.) Keep an eye on the rash, we just got done with one where we had to take our daughter to the doctor and it had turned into a yeast infection, and we had to get a prescription for a cream. The main symptom of yeast infection is tiny red bumps. So, if you see them, take the baby to the doctor. Triple Past Ointment works really well too, and you can buy that over the counter now. Good luck.
- Some babies get really bad diaper rash, there are ointments that your pediatrician can give you that work within a day. My son had a bad rash once, and the cream was a miracle. If it is really red and irritated, you really should take her to a doctor ASAP as it may already have a little infection. Other home remedies to try though: just keep baby's bum nice and dry, try changing her before her diaper is too wet, and use powder to help soak up excess moisture. Baby powder, starch, etc are all good.
- My favorite is Bag Balm. It's in a green can and you can find it at any walmart or target store. I use bag balm for everything and it works better than the prescriptions from the dr. sometimes. Good luck!!
- No nO NO A&D that is the worst stuff you can put on a butt! I change 80+ diapers a day! Go to walmart in the diaper section they sell this stuff it is called Butt Paste. No joke I am being honest, if it is not there try a drug store, this stuff as awsome! It works quick. A&D keeps the moisture in... the reason you have diaper rash... (the child) Butt paste lets it out and heals at the same time. I swear by it! If you dont have a whole lot of money call the docter they can write a script for it, and you get it for what ever the copay is!
