What is the best thing to do for a BAD diaper rash? Home cures or the best medication?

My little girl's medication has given her a bloody bottom. She has nasty diarreah and it is so sad when I change her. I don't know if I should take her to the doctor or try more home stuff. I don't think the Doctor can help much but I don't know. My son NEVER had a diaper rash his whole life and that is why I am at such a loss I think! Thank you so much!

  1. vaseline
  2. *OHMIGOSH, I have the stuff for you. I think you can only get it online. It's AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TOP NOTCH and I swear by the stuff. Called Resinol.
  3. If its very bad, and normal nappy rash cream doesnt work, it could be thrush - my son got this from medication also, doctor just told me to get an anti fungal cream called clonea.
  4. Try giving her an oatmeal bath...http://www.thelaboroflove.com/articles/natural-remedies-for-diaper-rash/
  5. If she's having diarrhea, I'd suggest putting Vaseline - to put a barrier between her diarrhea and her bottom. Perhaps for the time being, don't use perfume-y diaper wipes (if you do). I know they irritated the heck out of my children. Beaudreax Butt Paste worked for my children when this exact same scenario happened. Good luck and I'm sorry - I know this is miserable! EDIT: Burned flour! I can't believe I forgot this. It was used on me as a child and when things got really bad with my children, it worked for them. Put some flour in a pan. Burn it. Seriously - it smells up the house, but do it until it turns brown. Put it in a shaker and use it on their bottoms. It works!
  6. Take her back to the dr. Antibiotics tend to cause yeast infections that look like really bad diaper rashes. My son has had 3 bouts with ear infections in 6 months. Everytime he has ended up with a bad diaper rash and the dr has prescribed a cream called Nystatin. It works wonders! Make sure you continue to use it for two weeks after it has disappeared, if not it will come right back.
  7. Vitamin A & D ointment works wonders!!
  8. Air and going to cloth diapers may be your best bet. At least temporarily if you don't want to do it permanently. Protect the floor and bed, but let that baby butt get air instead of being held in plastic. Clearly, it is not a working combo with that med.
  9. the best over the counter ointment is called desitin just rub it on every diaper change
  10. Obviously you should be changing her OFTEN. Give her a warm oatmeal bath (it's a powder that you put in the tub). Lots of diaper cream - I found that Desitin was good, but Desitin creamy stung my kids when they had a rash. Finally, an anti-fungal (like Lotrimin) to take care of any fungal infection that has set hold (you'll see little red spots). Figure out what's causing the diarhea and fix it, if you can. If possible, let her run around bare for a bit and get some air on that poor tush.
  11. While she has diarrhea, slather on a good thick coat of just about any ointment that has a high zinc oxide content. This will protect her skin. Once the diarrhea has stopped, wash her frequently with just plain ol' water, pat dry, and then (here's the hard part) let her go without a diaper as long as possible. If you can't have her without a diaper, just put one on as loose as you dare (almost falling off) so air can get inside. Good luck.
  12. girls tend to develop more diaper rashes then boys. I have a boy and a girl and my son doesn't get them, my daughter on the other hand it was almost 2 times a month... what can help is corn starch or u can use something called butt past, u can buy off the shelves from a pharmacy near u....
  13. My mother always used resinol and I do now, it's in a little round container and can be found at any drug store, Wal-Mart also carries it. Just apply that at each changing and then put some corn starch over it. Some use baby powder, but the scent in it can sometimes irritate a diaper rash.
  14. Do not use vaseline as it creates a barrier that air cannot penetrate, and the sore bottom needs air to help it heal. Also if the bottom is red and hot, it will keep the heat in and be more uncomfortable for your little one. I don't know where you live, but here in Australia we use something called Bepanthen that contains benzalkonium chloride and works very well for fast healing. This medication is put out by Bayer, and you should check if you live in the US to see if they have it. It is OTC here in Oz. But vry expensive about $16 a tube. If you do suspect that it is due to antibiotics (if she is taking anyting ending in "cillen") then get her back to the doctor. They will probably suggest that you get something llike mycostatin which can be bought OTC in the US and used topically for the rash. Good luck I know it is difficult to have a little one with a sore bottom. Oh yeah, she may be allergic to disposable diapers, have you changed brands of late?
  15. Oh no, I feel for you! The best thing you can do is keep it clean, and air out that tushy as much as possible. I use this stuff called butt paste. Its great, I swear by it! Stay away from desitine, it burns!!! I also heard of trying olive oil. Good luck. If that doesn't work call your doctor, it could be a yeast infection.
  16. use A+D to prevent it when they dont have the rash and my dr prescribed Nystatin it worked wonders
  17. When my sons nappy rashes get bad I use canestan(antifungal crean used for thrush) But when they got to the point of bleeding I was told to use hydrozole(cortisone cream) but only sparingly. As for home remedies 1/4 cup of salt to a full bath (adult size so that there is not too much salt) and cornflour to help dry out the bum. Also try nappy free time as much as possible or get cloth training pants so that her little bottom can breathe
  18. use tripple past fine it at the drug store also try florastore you mix it with jucie milk ect
  19. Oh my daughter had the same thing happen to her - blisters all over the place! Terrible. 1.Try just having her go naked for a while each day so she can "air out." 2. Use a huge amount of Vaseline on her areas down there to protect against the acid in the urine and diarrhea when she is wearing a diaper. 3. Instead of using baby wipes, either use a wet wash cloth or just put her under a warm faucet and clean her off that way. The wipes have alcohol in them which makes it worse. 4. When it is healing and she's stopped the diarrhea use Corn Starch in her diaper - a ton of it all over -just dump some in the diaper and on her. This stuff somehow works to soak up the infection from the blisters. It cleared up my daughters blisters in like a day! Yeah, no wipes, corn starch, vaseline and airing out is all you really need!
  20. Yes, take her in to her doctor. It may be that what she has is a yeast infection, inwhich she would need something different than a diaper rash cream. If not, ask for "pink swizzel" it is a perscription because it has a mild steriod, but it is the best diaper rash cream ever! Good luck!
  21. Lots of air on her wee bum! Lots of nappies-off time. When she is in nappies, protect her rash with a thick ointment (NOT antifungal unless you KNOW it is a fungal infection: she may build up a resistance to it and then its useless when you do need it) change her as soon as you know she's pooped. A WEAK salt water solution squeezed over her rash and left to dry will also help. Don't make it strong or it will really sting. Strong enough is when you can just taste the salt in the water. This is mildly antibacterial, and has been used for healing since we first sat our sore bums in the ocean and went 'aaahhhh' thousands of years ago. :) My son had rashes so bad that when I wiped him, it left raw bleeding skin all over...so I know how you feel. If she is on antibiotics of any kind, that will be causing this rash and most likely the diarrhoea too - these are both very common side effects of antibiotics that they seem to forget to warn you about properly. Get her off them as soon as you can. Be comforted, babies heal fast! You are doing the best you can for her, she'll be all better in a week or so. Hang in there!
  22. my son had the same thing the doc gave me some prescribed ointment for it. It worked good.
  23. Give her BRAT foods for the diahhrea (bananas, rice, applesauce) We used Triple Paste when my daughter had out of control rash. she was the same way.....NEVER had diaper rash in her life, then all of the sudden it was horrible.....she had a flu shot and got massive diarreah from it. The tube of Triple Paste said "for use on red, raw, irratated skin" so I bought it......$8 for 2oz, $17.99 for 10oz but SO worth it. Overnight her butt was better and in 2 days it was gone. I use it every night before bed and during the day at the slighest sign of redness. she has never had another diaper rash since. So worth the money and she did not scream when I put it on her like she did with everything else we used. Good luck.
  24. since my baby born (now 4 months old) he constantly had face rash episodes and the doctor gave him some medication, that do not work. I have tried everything and nothing seems to function. Last week the rash got worst, and when my grandmother saw him she prepare something that in just two days the rash gone completely. Is so simple, just mix "maicena" with sabila and apply to the rash,as many times as you want with a pincel.
