What is a really good cream for a diaper rash that wont go away??

He got a diaper rash from being on a strong anitbiotic because he ended up getting the runs from it. Now that we are done with the antibiotic the diaper rash is not going away. I am using balmax right now. I also let his little bottom air out some and I change his diapers very often. I just can't get it to go away. Its not blistered its just red with little red bumps. I hope you can help.

  1. Anyway you should call your pediatrician if the diaper rash is to bad it may have yeast in it. The doctor can prescribe you something and you may not even have to go in to see him/her.
  2. Hun call your pediatrician..based on what you've put down it sounds like thrush..There isn't anythign on the market that will treat that without a prescription. They'll give you a script for nyastatin ointment.
  3. Flanders Buttocks Ointment It's a life saver (or at least a butt saver)
  4. Clotrimazole cream 1%. It is an anti-fungal cream found with the athlete's foot products. My pediatrician had me use this on my daughter's rash that was caused by antibiotics because it isn't an ordinary rash- it is a rash caused by too much yeast in the body (because of the medicine). Just apply a thin layer, it should be gone in a few days. Good Luck!
  5. Little red bumps after an antibiotic....I would definitely say a yeast infection. Call your pediatrician for a prescription. They will usually call it right into the pharmacy for you if you tell them that you're almost positive it is a yeast infection. It'll clear up soon after that. In the mean time, lots of air time. So, try to contain him to a linoleium or tile floored area with some changing pads spread out to play on bare bottomed.
  6. Try Boudreaux's Butt Paste--it is the best and they sell it at Target... http://www.buttpaste.com/BLButtPaste.php
  7. It could also be a yeast infection - my kids would sometimes get these after being on antibiotics....Call you doctor he might suggest a cream just for yeast infections - these are the same creams that we would use. Good Luck
  8. i would go to the doctor because it may be a yeast infection caused by the antibiotics, my children once had this and we were told to buy a yeast infection cream to put on it and it worked, doctors will tell you to put this on normal diaper rash sometimes
  9. I use only a baby washcloth to cleanse my daughters bottom (water only) Baby wipes have alot of chemicals in them, even the sensitive ones.I rinse/wash it out very well after every diaper change. I also used nyastatin cream that the doctor prescribed. I stopped using zinc containing products and only used A & D ointment. It took it about 5 days but it has finally went away and she has a clear butt.
  10. I went through the same thing with my first, it got bad enough to where the little bumps would bleed :( I dont really like balmax, I like A&D but not the diaper rash kind, its not even found in the baby aisle, its an ointment for dry/cracked skin. I switched between that and baby powder. When I felt soo bad keeping him in a diaper I would put him in the bathtub with Aveeno oatmeal bath, that always seemed to calm an outbreak on his bottom. Keep it up, it'll go away eventually!
  11. Might sound strange, but it could be a yeast infection. My daughter had it, BUT it was blistered and wouldn't go away, and that's what it was. Not sure if little boys get it, but worth a try
  12. It is probably a yeast infection. I believe it to be one because he just finished a course of antibiotic. Boys DO get them too. Call your doctor to have them look at it and confirm. They will prescribe Myconizole- or yeast medication that women take when they have a yeast infection. Administer for a week and it will be gone. Good luck to you and to the little one!
  13. My son had a ridiculously stubborn diaper rash that all the Lotrimin & Nystatin imaginable woudln't clear up. We resorted to 7th generation diapers, rinsing him in the sink for diaper changes (ivory soap for poop), and a mylanta/corn starch mixture. After almost FOUR months of scripts, he cleared up within a week using those methods. Good Luck!! Nothing sucks more than a sore bum on a baby.
  14. Don't use wipes, wet some washcloths with warm water to wash his bottom, and let air dry. Then apply cream (I use Bordeaux Butt Paste). When my daughter had really stubborn rashes, cream didn't work, but it went away really fast after I would use plain water instead of wipes to clean her. I hope this helps!
  15. It sounds like fungal thrush. It's ok, lots of babies get it. You will need to make an appointment with the doctor so you can get some nyastatin cream/ointment. You will see it clears it up right away.
  16. As others have said, it could be partially a yeast infection, which requires a prescription for nystatin. Even so, if it's a really bad rash, I've found that a combination of things works best. My husband is a pediatric nurse and in the hospitals, they mix up what they call "butt paste" for the kids who get it. You would want to mix the balmex some maalox (yes the antacid medication) and some cornstarch to thicken it up You want to layer this mix with the nystatin.
  17. i used triple paste for my daughters diaper rash. they now have a new rx on the market i would call the dr for more advice and info.
  18. It may be from yeast. You might want to have a doctor look. My baby had one from yeast and our doctor had us get some OTC monistat 7 cream for it, and it seems to be working.
  19. my son has the worst bottom. i swear to keep the rashes away i'd have to wake him up 4 times threw the night to change him. my aunt told me just to put regular old corn starch in his diaper and it has worked miracles. give it a shot.
  20. It is a yeast infection. Nothing but medicine that you get from the doctor will help it go away. My baby had it and I had the worst time until the doctor finally diagnosed it right.
