How do you get rid of a stubborn diaper rash?

My neice has a rash on her bottom that isn't clearing up with powder or diaper rash ointments (Desitin, AD ointment) What will clear it up? It is bumpy red, when its dry it cracks. Help!

  1. sounds like it might be a yeast infection. have you taken her to the doc?
  2. bag balm you can find it almost anywhere comes in a green tin can
  3. Try cornstarch
  4. it could actually be a yeast infection - time to take her to the doctor and get a prescription.
  5. Naked bottom for as much of the day as possible (just keep towels around to clean up the mess). Nothing better to heal it than a lot of air.
  6. whether its a rash or an infection the little one has, try bepanthem cream its miracle cram!!! if it doesnt work take her to the doc
  7. sounds like it might be yeast. the best bet is to go to the Dr and get them to give her a cream for it or they might give the actual medicine. i have had allot of success using the woman's feminine powders bc they are meant to be used on those sensitive bits but if it is yeast it wont help.
  8. If you have somewhere where she can hang out naked for a while, air-drying the bottom daily is the best fix. At night, try triple barrier ointment.
  9. That sounds like a trip to the pediatrician! There are prescription diaper rash ointments that get rid of stubborn diaper rash. It could also be an allergy to a food, or formula. Poor baby! Good luck!
  10. my sons rash actually got better when i stopped using creams. it might even be the brand of wipes
  11. I've just had the same problem with my daughter. First, before applying any cream, you have to make sure the area is fully dried. And when you wash her bottom, dun use wipes. Instead, wash with warm water. Next, let her bottom air abit. When it's dry, apply the cream. Try BEPANTHEN. Or Drapolene. You should see improved results overnite. And becareful not to let her poops stay in her diaper for too long. For your extra knowledge, the reason to let it dry completely is to prevent water from being trapped below when u apply the cream. when its not fully dried and cream is applied, the water will stay there as the cream is preventing the water to dry by itself. Thus this will only worsen the case.
  12. Aquafor!!! I swear by it, but I dont think I spelled it right. Its a little pricey though, 3oz for about $8. But works excellent!!
  13. Call the doctor, it could need a prescription. If not, then try Triple Paste. It is hands down the best cream. We use it at night, and if we feel she is getting a little irritated. It is pricey, but worth it.
  14. YEAST INFECTION, take her to her MD and they'll prescribe some nystatin ointment, it'll clear up almost immediately.
  15. Have u tried zinc cream, i used this with my 4 kids and it worked excellent so much better then baby creams. Its in the baby section of the shops
  16. It does sound like a yeast infection to me. I would call the doctor in the morning and tell them about her bottom and see if they can prescribe a cream for her right over the phone. They may want to see your neice's bottom to make sure. If it is a yeast infection generally the other creams will not work. Also try another type of diaper. My son had a really bad rash that was a yeast infection as well as a diaper rash. The medicine prescribed by the doctor didn't do too much and I just felt so bad for my son. I posted the same question as you did and someone mentioned Seventh Generation diapers. They are disposable diapers that have no chlorine in them. The chlorine in the other regular diapers is used to make them white is what most babies are allergic too. It doesn't have to appear right away either it can just happen overnight because their skin is constantly changing. Once when I switched to Seventh Generation diapers my son's bottom looked better in two diaper changes I was so amazed that i will not use any other diaper out there other than cloth if someday I decide to try them. Also stop using wipes with alcohol. That will irritate her butt more. Either use a wash cloth that is damp or use cotton with water. If you are like me and only like using wipes then go to the breastfeeding section at your store and buy the lansonah wipes they are in a purple wrapper and they are alcohol free which will not irritate her butt. I use these wipes as well all the time now because pampers Sensitive ended up giving my son a rash as well.. Also for right now to try to prevent it from getting worse try Triple paste it is a really good ointment to use. It is nice and thick. Call the doctor in the morning and see what they have to say. Good Luck I hope her bottom feels better soon.
  17. Try different diapers. My son was allergic to Pampers/Huggies, and we switched to Seventh Generation. And he has not had diaper rash since we switched. Also, I use cotton pads instead of wipes, because those can be very irritating too. Make sure to clean the area every time you change the diaper, and let it air dry thoroughly before putting on a new diaper.
  18. It sounds like your baby has a yeast infection, in which case it can be relieved by a prescription diaper cream called Vusion ointment. Also, has your niece been on any antibiotics or gotten any immunizations lately? It could be a reaction to those. If it's a yeast infection, it can only be treated by a DR. Otherwise, be sure to change dirty diapers right away and tell you sister to use washcloths and water instead of wipes right now, so it doesn't aggravate the tender skin even more. Try Bourdreaux's Butt Paste. It is a different kind of diaper rash ointment, as it has more effective ingredients, not just zinc oxide. Put it on with every diaper change. However, let it dry (so keep baby diaper free) BEFORE you put on a new diaper. There are 2 easy things your sister can do to PREVENT future diaper rashes: change dirty diapers right away and put a layer of Desitin Clear or AD Ointment on baby's butt with each diaper change. The main ingredient in these is petrolatum (otherwise known as petroleum jelly or Vasoline) and it forms a barrier between wetness in the diaper and baby's skin. I use Desitin Clear and my baby has NEVER had a diaper rash and it also works for chapped skin and minor cuts (like from sharp nails). Hope this helps!
