What to do for really severe diaper rash?
My daughter has really bad diaper rash. She's raw. Probably from either drinking too much orange juice or eating too many carrots. She loves them both. Any good suggestions aside from the obvious desitin and triple paste? Either for her tush or for the bath. She's 14 months. Thoughts appreciated.

- Keep her bare for as much of the day as you can. Change frequently and apply desitin (or whatever cream you use).
- get some BUTT PASTE, thats really the name of it! it works wonders and can be bought at your local drugstore!
- let her run around without a diaper where its easy to clean up pee. also, doc can give a prescription. they have something called miracle cream which works wonders. she may also have a yeast infectiontoo and they may give you some nystatin cream for that
- Leave her diaper off to let it get air for at leat an hour ro so. Also used cornstarch instead of powder. Then don't let her have the stuff that gives it to her. She could get infected and that would be a bad deal for the poor little thing.... It can also be from teething tho...
- You didn't recently change brand of diapers did you? I did that once and my daughter got what I thought was a bad rash...allergic reaction! If nothing works try changing diapers! Cheaper is NOT always better! Good luck!
- Wash her in water only--no soap if she's raw. Apply A&D Ointment liberally with every diaper change. Slather it on. (Two different pediatricians thousands of miles apart recommended it when our babies were still babies.) Change her as soon as she's wet or soiled. If you can't tell when she's wet, check her diaper every hour when you're both awake. Minimize acidic foods--tomatoes, pickles, orange juice. If the weather or your flooring allows it, let her spend some time without a diaper every day. Poor thing! It happens to so many of them, so no guilt, okay?
- Bare bottom, bare bottom, bare bottom!!!!! Let her go without a diaper as much as you can, she needs to get some air on her behind. Also no wipes, they will probably only irritate her more.. just use a wash clothe and warm water. Also I know you already mentioned triple paste, but I swear by that stuff.. it saved my son's little behind.
- The only thing that cures for my baby is: Grapefruit seed extract drops in water to wash his bum each nappy change. ( works better than prescrition cream!)This clears any bacteria. Open a Vitamin E capsule and smooth over red area and cover with Zinc cream - this heals fast. Do this once a day until better. Metanium cream - doesnt let any moisture in at all, great barrier. Good luck!
- It could be a yeast infection. In this case, she would need an antifungal cream. Have you brought her in for a check up? My mom said she used to use oatmeal on everything....but not sure about there.
- Resinol. You can get it in any pharmacy over the counter. It isn't directed for diaper rash, its for skin irritations. Its works WONDERS. You will notice a difference next day.
- We switched to cloth and it took about two days for him to clear up, and we haven't had any problems since then.
