diaper rash?
my baby has a severe diaper rash, especially on her vagina. It looks like it's blistering and is bright bright red. i've tried aveeno diaper rash cream, cornstarch baby powder and let her go about 20 mins at a time with no diaper to no avail. does anyone else have any tried and true remedies? i'm a first time mom, so obviously i've consulted my baby bible, "what to expect the first year" and it recommends that after 72 hours i consult my pediatrician...should i? oh yeah...and it's not because i haven't changed her diaper frequently. i can't even stand to have her with a little pee in her diaper. i think the rash stemmed because she seems to have caught a stomach bug from the neighbors baby, causing her to have diarrhea.

- try desitin and put a lot on the area. do it every time your baby has a diaper change. also there is nothing a doctor can do for diaper rash. all they will tell you to do is apply a lot of diaper rash cream. poor baby.. hopefully it goes away soon. edited: i also like oracleofohio's answer i might try that myself next time my baby has really bad diaper rash
- My daughter is almost 2 and she only get diaper rash when she has diarrhea. I may take up to a week to go away. It should start to fade as soon as the diarrhea goes away. Keep up the constant changing, ointment, and powder. If you are able to keep a diaper off of her for awhile, that's good to.
- I am trying to remember the name of this ointment I used and sware by...it is in the foot odor department for athletes foot. I thinks it's called Lotramin? YEA, that's it! Believe it or not, it is the best ! All thoughs baby rash creams don't really work. Please, I am not telling you a gimmick. I have two kids, and it was a miracle when my doctor told me about it. My son had the runs too and it goes away sooo fast. It is soothing to your baby too. Don't put it on too thin or too thick but keep it on. It won't hurt your baby. Check it out and hope this helps. :D
- My baby got a bad diaper rash on her first month... I tried 6 different lotions until I hit jackpot. Desitin ORIGINAL. Not the clear one... has to be the white thick smelly one.... after cleaning her up, make sure the area is dry, apply cream and diaper again... it worked overnight I swear..I am a first time mom, and wanted to do my own thing..my mom reccomended this cream..but I was trying toget away from the smelly stuff and kept trying all other fancy stuff out there (aveeno, J&J, clear desitin,etc)... finally gave up and had to say those words "you were right mom". GOOD LUCK!!!
- I had this same problem when my son was a baby, the pediatricians office was really no help. They made many suggestions and none of them worked. I changed doc's and this older guy was just amazing. He told me to never, ever put anything on a rash but Vaseline. You need to create a barrier between the rash and the moisture. Lay it on pretty thick. It's much easier to wipe off than any of the diaper creams out there. You should notice an improvement and your baby will be more comfortable. The other thing is that it might be a yeast infection. You can use the same cream that you would to treat yourself. If the Vaseline doesn't seem to work within 24 hours, give this a try. I know its awful, I've been there. I've used these methods on all four of my kids and they both work like a charm. Hang in there and I promise it will go away....Good luck :)
- It sounds like your baby may have a diaper rash, and a yeast infection. You should call your doctor in the morning...they can prescribe an ointment, such as Vusion, to take of it. They may prescribe Lotramin AF, but please call your doctor first before medicating her! Also, please do not use the same stuff that you use on yourself for a yeast infection unless the doctor says its okay. Right now, try giving her a bath with a few scoops of baking soda in the water and putting a cloth diaper on her...until you can call her doctor in the morning.
- if shes really uncomfrtable call the docs office tonight for help. you should have an nurse answering line or a doc on call. This may be more than a simple diaper rash going on so its a good idea to consult with a pro. Really bad rashes can occur from diahrrea and other sources like a yeast infection. Don't combine any powder and creams. I use "triple paste", its a bit spendy but worth every penny. Our doc once had us use a combo of warm water and baking soda for a type of rash. I think this was because of a diahrrea related rash.
- You've gotten some great answers so far. Once my son had a rash that would NOT go away. We changed him religiously, tried diaper creams, anti-fungals (like the lotramin the other chick suggested) and other things. I took him to the doctor and it turns out he had strep on his bum! So, if nothing is working, a doctor trip might be in her best interest.
- This diaper rash cream works wonders. I've used it and my friends use it on their babies too. Just mix it all together and store in a plastic container. 1 tube of Desitin(original) 1 tube of A + D ointment(brown tube) 1 tube of Neosporin(+ pain) 2 tablespoons of Maalox(mint)
- "lucas pawpaw ointment" its in a red jar and you can buy it from safeway! very cheap and effective : recommended for mozzie bites, burns, boils, nappy rash. keep it on hand fit for any emergency or just for a pain in the butt mozzie bite!!!!!
