Why do dirty disposable diapers smell worse than dirty cotton diapers?
I've been putting regular cotton diapers on the baby during the day and disposable diapers at night. Have two bins accumulating each kind in the room. The disposable ones smell much worse. Why is this?

- It's probably because the poop is being kept in a warm place, folded up (with the disposable diapers) and the heat is making the smell worse. With cloth diapers they can vent a little more. More air can get through the material. Also, with cloth diapers you probably rinse them after a bowel movement but with the disposable you just throw them in a diaper pail to sit and stink up the room.
- It's the chemicals in the dipes. They off gas and release toxins into your home. My friend has asthma and the disposies kept setting her off. Now that she uses cloth, she reaches for her inhaler less.
- Because of the chemicals used in the manufacturing process. When the diaper gets wet or messy the odors of the urine or poop mix with the contents of the manufacturing process to bring in more odors of the paper pulp, the gel crystals and any other chemical used to make them. Good luck.
