Is it very hard and time consuming to use cloth nappies? I'm due with baby #1 in September, and I was thinking about cloth nappies. Also I forgot to add, I've never changed a nappy before!! So should I perhaps start with disposables and work my way up lol?

UK-based answers please: good places to sell a bundle of second-hand Motherease cloth nappies? Not Ebay -- they no longer allow the sale of second-hand cloth nappies (what a shame -- many of our friends both bought and sold on their kids' cloth nappies there.) Other helpful suggestions please!

Best cleaning routine for cloth nappies? Ok so i am planning on using cloth nappies throughout summer for our little boy when he arrives. I realise i need to soak them but what is the best method and best bleach/ detergent to soak them in and then wash them in? What worked best for you? Thanks muchly
Does anyone want to donate cloth nappies? Hi! I'm trying to move to cloth nappies for my 13 week old, but I'm unsure as to what type is best and I'm on a stupidly tight budget. I'd like to try various types, I have tried a couple via the council trial but I'm not convinced they're the right ones so far and I could do with quite a few. Any charitable souls out there? Thanks Thanks, I've been on freecycle for weeks and weeks but none have come up yet. why is it so difficult and expensive to be greener, huh?
how do i get into using cloth nappies? I'm interested in using cloth nappies I'm a bit hazy on the different types i had a demonstration from a lady at tots bots and i liked the bamboo shaped nappy but i have found them to be a bit pricey, I'm also interested in using flat nappies but wondered how to actually use them, for instance do i need to use a booster and are they likely to leak as they don't have elasticated leg bands
Can you bleach re-useable cloth nappies/ outer wraps to bring the whitness back up? If so how is it safest/ best to do this? I have some bambino mio stuff, some new some used and a few bits are looking a bit grey!
I am due to become a New Daddy in the New Year. Should we use disposible or cloth Nappies? I am sure the costs work out the same if you have them Laundered, but what is better for the Babies skin?
Has anyone here tried cloth nappies? I think what I really want to know is, is it too much trouble to bother using cloth nappies instead of disposable ones? Do the nappy liners work to prevent too much mess? Do the plastic pants prevent too many leaks? Are they easy to wash? Did you give up in the end? I don't like the idea of the expense of disposable ones, as well as the fact that they are dreadful for the environment. Is it worth it?

Cloth Nappies or disposables? I am 5 mths pregnant and seriously considering cloth nappies rather than disposable due to cost and most importantly the impact on the environment. Does anyone out there have honest views on cloth nappies? Do you use them and love them or were they a nightmare? I am thinking of getting fuzzi bunz all in ones but just wanted to see what other peoples views were. Please also answer if you think disposables are the way to go - I need all sorts of views to help me decide (people keep putting me off cloth due to the amount of washing/drying etc).
Thinking about using cloth nappies/diapers...where can I start? Does anyone kniw of good websites to help me with where to begin? There seem to be so many kinds of nappy and liner and cover that I dont know where to look! I have an 11 wek old so it is definately worth making the switch...I HATE buying disposables for the obvious reasons of cost to the environment and me! Oh...and I'm in the U.K.
Experiences with Bumgenius cloth nappies/diapers......? We have been using Moltex disposable nappies since she was born, they are a quick bio-degradable nappy made out of recycled materials, but they are very expensive, and im thinking of making the switch to cloth. Ive done some research and like the look of bumgenius, and am just wondering does anyone have anything good/bad to say about this brand? Also imput about any other good cloth nappies appreciated, thanks!

I plan to use cloth nappies but . . . ? In my baby's hospital bag I have packed disposables, and I don't intend to put pressure on myself too quickly with the cloth nappies, I want to settle in and focus on breastfeeding first. After a couple of weeks, I plan to use the cloth nappies when baby and I are more used to each other - its my first baby! Did anyone else do this?
Nappies (diapers) disposable vs cloth? No doubt this has been asked before but we are using cloth nappies. Is it true 'environmentally' there's not a huge difference? And more of a difference cost wise? (we're in Australia) has any one worked out what one would save using cloth? Thank you

Cloth nappies, opinions please? Am 14 weeks preg and just wondering how good cloth nappies such as bambino mio are. Like the idea in principle but have heard mixed reports ie leaking. x
Cloth Nappies - new modern ones!!? How many of you have used these velcro cloth pre-formed nappies? How much do they cost and how many would you advise to buy? Do you need to buy more as children grow? Any good sites that sell them? Just curious
Are cloth/reusable nappies really cheaper and more environmentally friendly than disposable nappies? As a mum, I felt a lot of pressure to use reusable/cloth nappies, on the premise that they work out cheaper in the long run and are better to the environment. However, I disagree with this reasoning. I use Tesco nappies (not Value ones) and they are cheap and very good (no leaks). Reusables cost a hell of a lot to buy a birth to nappy pack and then factor in electricity and water costs and I have worked out that they would cost me more. I also think that I would be doing a lot more washes which equals more electricity used so an equal if not bigger impact on the environment. I think the whole reusable nappies thing is a big pressure to put on new mums who have enough to deal with without the guilt of not being eco-mums and I think it is a big con that it is cheaper or more environmentally friendly. I know many will disagree but I just wanted to put the point out there as nobody ever questions the reusable nappies propaganda.
Help needed with cloth nappies? Hi, i am planning on using some cloth nappies with my 3 month old son but am unsure how to care for them. The brand i have is tots bots, but as they were donated to me i have no idea how to use them. Do i need to soak them, and if so what should i use? I have borax at home so could i use that to make a soaking solution or do i need to buy specialist soaking solution? Also, are they as absorbant as disposale nappies or do i need to change them more often? Please give me some advice as i have never used cloth nappies before nor do i know anyone that has used cloth nappies.
Can anyone advise me on Cloth Nappies? My daughter (now 3) was in disposible nappies, but this time i would love to use cloth nappies. I am 7 1/2 months pregnant and on a low budget. Can anyone please advise me of the best ones to buy reguarding price. I was thinking of buying the normal Muslin Squares from boots for £5.99, and some type of fastener for the cloth, but is their anything alse id need? Also any advice on other "reasonably priced" cloth nappies would be great. Many thanks in advance TOXIC TONIC - Grow up
users of cloth nappies/diapers? jacob is now trying to sit up and when he is naked or wearing a disposable he can sit forward and try to balance himself. in his cloth nappies he can't seem to bend enough to do this. the nappies do not hinder him in any other way. the ones he currently have sit at abot the level of his belly button. i was contemplating moving up to next size so they sit higher, and using popper fastenings as the seem to give a bit more freedom than aplix. do you have any advice? i'm also a bit worried that if i make them loose enough to allow sitting, they will leak when he lies down. please do not bother telling me not to use cloth nappies.
Smelly Cloth nappies? I use little lambs cloth nappies for my daughter and have noticed recently that no matter what i wash them with or what temperature i wash them at they still smell. I use the powdered tablets to wash them and have tried different brands (persil, tescos own and asdas own) but it still makes no difference. Also i've washed them at 40 and 60 degree washes and that also makes no difference. does anyone know how i can get rid of the smell or at least reduce it? thanks to the first answer, they are new nappies she just started on the size 2 about a month or so ago so she hasn't had them that long.
Personal experience with reusable (cloth) nappies? Hi I am 20 weeks pregnant with my second child and am thinking about using cloth nappies when s/he is born. Can anyone with some personal experience answer a few questions: 1) Are they more likely to cause nappy rash? 2) Are they very time consuming (I already have a 2 1/2 year old son and would be put off using them if I was going to need 3 extra hours a day to wash them etc)? 3) How do you manage when you are out? Do you use disposables then? 4) If your child goes to a nursery, do they allow you to use them or request that you send disposables? 5) Will I need to buy new ones in bigger sizes every few months/weeks or very rarely? 6) What is the initial expenditure (ie the purchase of the nappies and equipment)? 7) What is the weekly expenditure (ie liners and cleaning solution)? 8) If I do decide to use them can you recommend a routine/any tips that will make it easier and save time and stress? Thanks in advance.

What did mothers use as nappies throughout history? OK today we have disposable nappies, cloth nappies and wraps. what is the best way to fold a cloth nappy for a one year one girl? i have a 11mth baby girl and i would like to start putting cloth nappys on her when we are at home. cause disposable ones are getting dear.
What are the best cheap cloth nappys to use that are sold in australia? I have been searching the web to find a good quality cloth nappy that purhaps comes as a package with nappy covers. I came over a company called Bambino Mio but they seem to be a bit on the expensive side. All the covers that go over the cloth nappys seem to be over the $25 mark. I am wanting something with great absorbensey and a good price. Any one from australia know of a good product. First baby and I don't know what to use at all. I am very frustrated. I am not interested in using just cloth nappys but using covers over these for extra protection. Any advice ANYONE???
How do you get the stains out of nappies?!? I've just started using cloth nappies, and am having trouble getting poo stains out!! My baby is breastfed so nothing too nasty yet, just very messy (sorry to be so graphic, folks)! I rinse them to get the muck off, then soak them over night in nappy soak before putting them in the wash, but they are coming out still stained, especially in the elasticated part. I paid a small fortune for them, so very disappointed I can't keep them bright white - what's the secret?!

Would you know how to fold and fasten a cloth nappy? Do you use them? Yes KB, just asking because they are such a rarety now, I think many young mothers' mothers haven't used them! My mum made a point of showing her 2 sons how to do this, telling us we will be knee deep in nappies one day. How right she was. jojo maybe cloth nappies are greener than disposables in one way, less raw materials used. But cloth nappies need washing, using electricity, water and detergent.
What is best for cloth nappies AIO nappies or chinese prefolds with nappy covers? We are expecting our son in 3 months. We will have 2 baby boys in nappies(11months and newborn). So we have searched around alot and want to know what is best, the new AIO nappies or the old fashioned chinese prefolds with nappy covers? I am pretty sure I wanted to order some off the internet since they seem to be cheaper. I found a website that does free shipping worldwide and the nappies are super cheap. But wondering how good are the nappies? Has anyone bought nappies from bouncybottomsinc.goods. officelive.com? Or where have you bought your custom made nappies from? Best kind, etc?
Disposable nappies or cloth ones that can be re-used? What have you found to be better? And reasons why.
Anyone who uses cloth nappies? have you applied for a partial refund from your local council yet?
Who uses cloth nappies (diapers)? I teach Child Studies to Year 9 (14 year olds) at a Sydney high school. In our 'Newborn Care' topic we're just about to compare cloth vs disposable and they are convinced that no one uses cloth anymore. Do you? Why?
Why is it illegal to install and to use the cloth nappy rinser Little Squirt commonly sold in shops? Steve said that qualified plumbers refuse to install the Little Squirt cloth nappy rinser, as they don't meet water system requirements? Are there any potential problems with using them?
A question of waste - Nappies, choices and the family? Ok, so I am asking for your thoughts on this statement/question. A report in one of todays papers states that a certain London Council is going to subsidise parents if they switch to cloth nappies instead of using disposable nappies. They say 3% of the UK's landfill waste is that of disposed nappies. So they are taking the green path. Fair enough but is this misguided? Lets think here, how many extra washes could be created to wash all these millions of nappies? Surely this is not green! The extra carbon footprint created would be immense. No? They keep on going on about it in the press. Also the practicalities...your out in town and your baby poops. Going to fold it up and take it home with you? As you walk through the bakery smelling of baby poop. Also are they not much larger than disposable nappies..make sure you buy a bigger changing bag? So is this nonsense? Would you switch to cloth nappies? Also it is said that councils will charge by 'pay as you throw' Dont families get a raw deal again from this 'famil friendly' government..more nappies whatever their form means more waste..and naturally larger families mean wore waste anyway, beware the family. By the way I am a happily married father of two

I am after the brand or name of nappy that works as good (or near as good) as a disposable but is cloth (preferably cotton) with the plastic attatched?
