Disposable Diapers Knowledge Base
Disposable Diapers? Which disposable diapers do you feel are the best for the baby and are somewhat earth friendly. I have heard of chlorine free diapers and cotton filled instead of gel filled diapers. I have been to both stores in my areas and have not found anything but Huggies, Pampers, Luvs and Parents Choice. They don't seem to have anthing like what I mentioned above. Is there any other diaper out there that is disposable that is better for baby and planet than the 4 above that I mentioned. You can give your opinion on the whole cloth verses disposable diaper, but I would like some honest opinions on the disposable diaper and info on any kind of biodegradable earth friendly type disposable. Thank you.
Where can I buy affordable disposable dog diapers? My dog is 17 and she needs diapers. Today I bought a pack of 12 disposable diapers for almost $17.00. She can't wear the washable diapers because they give her a rash. Please let me know if there is a place where I can buy doggie diapers for cheaper.
What is that absorbent stuff inside disposable diapers? I accidentally threw a[n unused] disposable diaper in with my laundry tonight, and it exploded everywhere, leaving little clear gelatinous globules covering my laundry, my washing machine, and my hands. Just what is this stuff inside diapers, anyway? And do I have to rinse the globules out of everything before I re-wash it? Is this stuff somehow toxic, and are we all going to die!?? (kidding on that one)
Are there any countries that have banned the use of disposable diapers and similar products? I have been using cloth diapers with both of my children pretty much since day one and am about to use cloth with a third baby. I know all the reasons not to use disposable diapers but it seems that so many people out there don't even think about it when they use a disposable diaper and it's really frustrating because I know just how bad they are for the environment and for our children's health. I don't want to sound like a tree hugger though and stop every parent that walks into a changing station and start preaching about it. I have heard though that many other countries are starting to inform parents about the hazards of disposable diapers and promoting cloth again. Are there any countries out there that have completely banned disposables all together? Are there any countries that never made the switch from cloth to disposables in the first place? Oh, and I don't use a diaper service either. I just take it off baby, shake off any loose poo into the toilet and throw into the diaper pail. Then once diaper pail is full, about every two to three days, take the pail and dump into my high efficiancy front loading washer and put through one rinse cycle and thena regular wash cycle then put into dryer. It's just that simple in case anyone is wondering. Also, today's cloth diapers are not what grandma would have used with pins and rubber pants. Most have velcro or snaps and go on just like a disposable and look just like a disposable only made with cloth instead.
What is more harmful for the environment, disposable or cloth diapers? I know it is often stated that disposable diapers are terrible for the environment as they take ages to break down, but what about the chemicals used and energy costs of cleaning cloth diapers? Which one is more or less polluting? Disposables that end up buried in landfills or cloth ones that create more carbon pollution in the air?
Does being raised in disposable diapers lead to infertility? Me and my DH are having a tough time getting pregnant. My husband wore those mega thick, plastic, no air flow disposable diapers from the early 80's and I am starting to wonder if it may have done some damage to him. My mom used disposables on me too from time to time but I am fine according to my doctor. She told me this problem usually only affects males.
Disposable diapers and bottle feeding? How lazy can people be? Why do women who choose to bottle feed and/or use disposable diapers constantly make excuses for their laziness? I worked after having my children, and I was still able to breastfeed for the first 4 months (then express to 2 bottles a day) and cloth diaper. Seriously, how lazy are mothers now?
Which brand of disposable diapers can cause a baby to have diaper rash more often? My 1 year old son seems to constantly have diaper rash. I have started using baby powder and letting his butt air out for about 30 minutes every day, and it has helped wonderfully. But I have read that the absorbent gel in the diapers can cause a rash. I just wanna know different opinions out there. Which brand can cause diaper rash the most and which brand can cause it the least. Also, which diapers have the least about of gel in them? Thanks!
What brands of disposable diapers are available unscented? Parent-to-be has picked up a pack of Pampers. Now: panic! I did not know that the modern diaper stank like hell. Really, those things reek; the smell's still on my hand. And that's just from the exterior wrapping! I can find obscure brands on-line claiming to be unscented, but is there anything I can pick up in a store that doesn't smell? Re. cloth: yeah, they're looking better and better all the time.
Is it safe to store disposable diapers? My daughter is outgrowing her size 1 diapers and I have about 100 left. Is it safe to store the diapers for when we have baby #2? We plan on trying for our second baby in about 4 years, so is it okay to put the diapers away for that long? I just don't want them to go to waste especially since they would come in handy when we have our second baby. Thanks!
Are cloth diapers cheaper than disposable diapers? The cloth diaper service in my area offers 54 cloth diapers for 19.00 flat rate and 3 dollars more for every extra dozen. Is it worth it? I won't have to wash any of them as they wash and drop off once a week.
Disposing of disposable diapers? I live in the county and there is no trash pickup. Disposable diapers just do not burn they typically put the fire out or take weeks just to single and fill the fire barrel up. How do I get rid of these diapers? I know that cloth diapers are an option and that they are more environmentally responsible but it isn't my job to change the diapers just to dispose of them so it is not my choice and cloth is not an option. Extra lighter fluid? I dont use any lighter fluid and I dont want to. It is not safe and unless I soak the diapers beforehand in lighter fluid I wont burn anything but the lighter fluid. I just dumped my last trash barrel and it was nothing but gooey black diaper mush. A full barrel of it.
Are the chemicals in disposable diapers toxic? Just wanted to know if they contain chemicals in those crystals that are carcinogens or could pose any kind of health risks to my children? Thanks! It seems that the crystals end up on my children no matter how often I change them.
Disposable diapers versus cloth diapers, what nonsense? I've never before heard such nonsense and rubish when it comes to pitting one against the other. I hear it all the time, "Oh if you use cloth diapers, you use so much water". Or, "All the laundry soap and washing and drying". People are so small minded. I guess there's no water used whatsoever in the pulp and paper process of manufacturing disposable diapers. (Ya right). Oh and of course, there's no other environmental concerns from big corporations poluting our waterways and water table systems. (Ya right once again). What about baby's comfort? I wouldn't dream of wearing disposables myself, so why would I put my baby in them? Their scatchy, rough, fit poorly, and look pathetic, never mind the asinine expense of affording them. I'm not at all against mothers who use disposable diapers, to each their own. But when people throw off the cuff comments around when they don't know what their talking about, it causes me to question people's sanity. Ignorance is not a virtue.
